The need for reliable and long-lasting Zigbee sensors for behavioral monitoring
The Access Group is one of the largest UK-headquartered providers of business management software to small and mid-sized organizations in the UK, US, Ireland, and Asia Pacific. They are trusted by 100,000+ customers including the UK NHS to solve their biggest software challenges.
For their care solution, Access Assure, The Access Group was looking for reliable and high-quality Zigbee sensors to provide their customers with behavioral monitoring services. Based on this behavioral data, the Access Assure solution can recognize deviations from usual behavior that can indicate potential illnesses and emergencies and enable residents to live at home safely and independently.
The sensors needed to have a long battery lifetime and use standard batteries as frequent battery changes are very costly and require technicians to visit customers in person – resulting in high maintenance costs for their customers. The Access Group was further looking for a smart plug with energy-monitoring capabilities to track the usage of home appliances.
A perfect fit: mature plug-and-play Zigbee sensors
Onics provided The Access Group with high volumes of Motion Sensors, Entry Sensors, and Smart Plug Minis in Onics’ frient brand.
The products use AA and AAA batteries that provide a lifetime of +3 years for the Motion Sensor and +9 years for the Entry Sensor and are easy to replace if necessary.
With the Smart Plug Mini, The Access Group found a smart plug that can monitor the energy consumption of individual electrical appliances and thus determine the usage of various household appliances. For instance, they can tell whether a microwave is in use or if it is only the clock that is consuming power.
