Decoding ITEC 2024 - 3 key takeaway for the care sector
This year’s ITEC conference in Birmingham earlier this week brought together care companies, technology providers, and care personnel to showcase and explore the possibilities technology offers for the care sector.
Onics was one of the exhibitors at the conference, and we have had many great conversations surrounding technology-enabled care.
We have collected 3 market insights from the event that will shape the care industry in the coming months.
1. The care industry is dependent on technology
Once again, ITEC demonstrated how crucial technology is for the care sector.
Changing demographics are leading to a higher need for care, but lower availability of care professionals. As a result, the sector is under extreme pressure as there are not enough people to provide adequate care for elderly and vulnerable people.
This gap can only be solved through the assistance of technology which can take over monitoring tasks, identify both short-term emergencies and long-term health decline, and enable carers to spend their time where it is needed.
2. Growing understanding and interest from frontline workers
In line with the definite need for technology-enabled care, we are also seeing a growing interest and understanding from care professionals. They are becoming more confident with technology and appreciate the increase in face-to-face time enabled by tech rather than seeing it as a threat to their jobs.
This offers a great basis for care providers offering tech enabled care solutions as they can only be effective if the people who are using them are open to it.
3. Collaborations between multiple companies are crucial
Connected devices for the care industry encompass motion sensors, fall detectors, 2-way audio devices, panic buttons, medical devices and much more.
This variety makes it impossible for one company to produce all devices required for a care solution and requires collaborations between several companies to deliver the best solutions.
When building a solution with products from different vendors, it is important to use an open platform and standard communication protocols that facilitate the integration of 3rd party devices. This way, solution providers can easily integrate the products and ensure the system stays open for future developments.
